Christmas Forestry & Farm is currently in all aspects of specialty wood products and camp construction including the harvesting of the raw material. In addition, Christmas Forestry & Farm provides a variety of unique hand harvested products for local Adirondack craftspeople for use in rustic furniture, boat building, unique construction and other woodcrafts. Some of the materials we harvest and store in inventory include cedar bark, posts & railings, birch bark, yellow birch twigs, black cherry twigs, birch and hemlock root bases, wide, clear pine planks for guide boats, fireplace mantles, decorative beams and specialty sawn decorative woods.
As mentioned, we are involved in this process from start to finish including the harvest of logs and materials. All of our harvests are done with small, low impact machinery and much of it is done "the old fashioned way"...by hand.
Materials are harvested from company lands taking great care to protect the woods, soils and wetlands of the site. Any wet or muddy sites are corduroyed with left over slab wood and chips from our mill site preventing excessive damage to the trails.
Our current operation in Oneida, Lewis and Franklin Counties, New York involve a "woods crew" for harvesting. Their jobs include cutting trees, harvesting bark, twigs and roots and hand cutting and peeling of certain items. We also employ mill yard people responsible for organization, preparation and storage of all products.
We offer native, rough-cut Adirondack pine, cedar and hemlock lumber at bargain prices. In addition, we have a limited supply of high-grade hardwoods including cherry, oak, maple, birch, and ash. Specialty items, mantles, and beams are also available.
